I cloud company CoreWeave has written to Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa, offering to work with her team on data centre rules. The letter from chief executive Michael Intrator was sent on Saturday, Bloomberg reported.
Intrator offered to work with her transition team on finishing projects that already have permits. He also offered help setting clear, lasting standards for new ones, Bloomberg reported.
Hinojosa, a Democrat, won Tuesday's election after promising to pause new data centres until the state has rules for them. She has said they should pay their own way and put Texans' water and power first, ABC13 reported.
CoreWeave appears to expect that projects already approved can go ahead. Carl Holshouser, its head of government affairs, said in a LinkedIn post that Hinojosa had made clear permitted projects can be completed.
TNW could not find Hinojosa saying this herself. Her team has not said how a pause would work.
Holshouser, who helped write the letter, said families should not pay for new power lines and plants. He added that new sites should protect local water and power.
Texas has already got tougher. In August, outgoing Governor Greg Abbott ordered regulators to pause new grid links and start auditing data centres.
